SENIOR FOOTBALL: Illabarook 7 - 14 - 56 defeated Skipton 5 - 11 - 41
Saturday saw our Senior team record their first loss for the season against a very determined Illabarook team. With the wind making conditions a little difficult and the opposition applying pressure, the players were not able to get the free-flowing style of play going that they had displayed the week before.
With a number of players down on form, too much was left to a few players. Nick Watson continued his good form in the ruck and Paul Grinstead played his usual strong game. James Collins and Graeme Lench tried hard in the back line, with Scott Paulke and Tony Boyer working hard around the ground.
Although it is always disappointing to lose, the performance by the Seniors so far this year has been very good. The break this weekend for the Inter-League game will allow the team to re-group and overcome a couple of niggling injuries.
With games against Navarre and Carngham/Linton ahead we will soon have a fair understanding of where we are at as a team.
Best players: N. Watson, P. Grinstead, J. Collins, G. Lench, S. Paulke, T. Boyer.
Goalkickers: K. Molloy 2, J. Gardner 1, T. Boyer 1, J. Milenkovic 1.
RESERVES FOOTBALL: Skipton 8 - 10 - 58 defeated Illabarook 5 - 8 - 38
In contrast to the Seniors, the Reserves team just got better as the game went on. With a number of players missing through injury the team started a little under-manned but a very determined effort resulted in a good win.
Robert Draffin led the way, with Alistair Dennis and Chris Shelton giving strong support, these being among the better players.
Best Players: R. Draffin, A. Dennis, C. Shelton, D. Gibson, J. Peeters, L. Milenkovic.
Goalkickers: J. Peeters 4, J. Gibson 3, M. Browning 1
JUNIOR FOOTBALL, UNDER 16's: Skipton 3 - 4 - 22 were defeated by Rokewood 19 - 13 - 127
Once again the Juniors struggled for enough players and found the game very difficult against a bigger and stronger opposition.
It is not hard to admire the efforts of these players who just keep trying each week and giving their best for the Club.
Hopefully a number of players will return after the break and help out those who are able to turn up each week.
