"Red and White Ramblings"
After four weeks of the Season our Senior and Reserves Football teams remain
undefeated along with the Senior Netball team. However, the next few weeks
should really tell the story when we play a number of the stronger teams in the
competition.
Unfortunately our Junior Football team is still struggling for numbers and are
finding the opposition too strong at this stage. With the possibility of a few
new players being available soon hopefully this will change. The enthusiasm of
the Juniors led by their coach Dean Sheridan is a credit to them so if you get
the opportunity make sure to come along early and cheer them on.
The Reserves, Under 17 and Under 14 Netball teams remain very competitive and
will no doubt have many more wins as the Season progresses. With good numbers
it is only time before those close losses turn into wins.
It was disappointing to learn during the week that Hugh Leishman will require
an operation on his left shoulder that will mean he will miss the rest of the
Season. We all wish him a speedy recovery and know that he will be back
rearing to go next Season.
For supporters looking for our scores on a Saturday night if you turn your dial
to Channel 10 at 7:30pm all the country footy scores are shown.
This week sees the launch of our Major Raffle. The prizes are electrical goods
supplied by Ballarat Warehouse Sales. We are looking for your support in this
important fundraiser so if you get the chance to either sell or buy a ticket
please do.
Don't forget the Players Calcutta is to be held this Saturday night at the
Social Rooms after our game against Lexton. See you there!!
In excellent weather for football and with the ground in perfect condition, the
Skipton Club welcomed the Landsborough Football Club, who, struggling with an
undermanned team, had a disappointing trip. Landsborough were not able to
field a team for the Reserves, and despite the efforts of their Rover Shelvin
Nika and Half Back Blake Clark, Skipton were dominant in all positions around
the ground.
In a game dominated by the forward line the highlight of the game was the 17
goals kicked by Kiernan Molloy, which broke the previous record of 14 goals
kicked by Gary Lofts and Darren Edwards.
Unfortunately Rod Kennedy suffered a serious ankle injury in the first quarter
which will see him side-lined for a number of weeks.
With a number of players unavailable or injured the opportunity was given to
Dane Court and Daniel Milenkovic to play their first Senior games. Dane joined
Adam Slater and Joseph Kavanagh, former Juniors who played in our 1999 Junior
Grand Final team.
