SENIOR FOOTBALL Last Saturday we travelled to Navarre to play the second placed team. In preparing for the game Coach Wayne Grace emphasised to the players that we needed to be focussed and ready for what would be a hard fought game. In a game played in near perfect conditions it was apparent that the players had followed the Coach's instructions and the overall team performance was one of the best for the Season.

The first quarter saw Skipton kick four goals to the opposition's one. Injuries to ruckman Nick Watson and centre player Tony Boyer caused concern and meant that the team line-up needed to be changed. Grant Carmody moved into the centre and immediately had an impact on the game and with Stephen McKerrow and John Gardner sharing the ruck duties the team was able to retain its momentum.

The second quarter was even on the score-board with Skipton kicking six goals to Navarre's four. Strong play by Mark Kennedy at centre half forward and Tim McKay at full forward gave the team options up forward and they were being well supported by the smaller players particularly Paul Grinstead and Wayne Grace.

The third quarter was similar to the second. It was apparent that Navarre had come out after the break determined to put pressure on the opposition. In what was an even quarter on the score-board Skipton scored four to three. The form of Aaron Klutke was pleasing during the quarter and it was apparent that he is returning to his best form after coming back from injury. He was well supported by the other players in the backline, an area that has been one of our strengths throughout the Season.

A nine goal to four final quarter saw Skipton finally run out comfortable winners by sixty-seven points. One of the highlights of the game was our accurate kicking for goal which has been a concern during the Season. With Kiernan Molloy to return next week for our home game against Carngham Linton and Nick Watson and Tony Boyer to recover from their injuries our team will be at near full strength. Troy Janssens is the only concern and he may be rested again to ensure that he is ready for the finals.

With Jason Gibson at full forward kicking eight goals the team had a strong focal points to kick to. Jason was well supported by Robert Draffin on the forward flank Gavan Corbett at centre half back was strong in defence and his experience helped the players around him.

It was pleasing to see Joseph Kavanagh back playing after a long break with a shoulder injury. He was quick to show that he had not lost much of his early Season form.

In a very exciting game that had supporters involved throughout, the result in the Senior game was in doubt right to the finish. After being led by ten goals to five at the first break a spirited effort saw them able to draw even by half time.

With the lead changing continually in the second half neither side was able to get on top of the opposition. Led by Julie Boyer in wing defence and Claire Odlum in the centre they were able to gain control towards the end of the last quarter and finally win by three goals.
