Skipton versus Carngham-Linton @ Snake Valley

"Red and White Ramblings"

SENIOR FOOTBALL:  Skipton 12 - 22 - 94 defeated Carngham-Linton 11 - 10 - 76

In a game where inaccurate kicking could have proved costly our Senior team was able to stand tall at the final siren against Carngham-Linton last Saturday. Determined not to be intimidated by the opposition, every player contributed to the win, with the lead changing on a number of occasions. In the second half the players had to dig deep and were rewarded with an exciting win.

The highlight of the game was the outstanding form of Kieran Molloy at centre half forward. His strong marking gave our players a focal point in the forward line all day.

Once again our backline stood firm with Troy Janssens, Graeme Lench and James Collins able to run the ball into attack continually. Stephen McKerrow, Michael Hutt and Alastair Dennis were strong in their support.

With Nick Watson controlling the ruck Paul Grinstead, Scott Paulke and Tony Boyer were able to drive the ball into the forward line, where "Jumping Jack" Gardner, Scott Fletcher (playing his first game for the season) and Adam Slater were able to convert to a score.

Unfortunately, Joseph Kavanagh suffered a broken collarbone in the second quarter. He'll be sidelined for a number of weeks but is determined to be back before the end of the season.

Although this win was the reward for all involved it must be remembered that there is a long way to go. Being able to turn one game clear on top of the ladder at the halfway point of the season is pleasing but the hard work has just begun!

With injured players Aaron Klutke, Rod Kennedy, Tim McKay, Josh Milenkovic, Brad Clark and Joseph Kavanagh to return over the next few weeks, and the inclusion of recruit Tony Oldaker from Ballarat, our depth of players is going to make the selectors' task a lot more difficult.

Best players:    K. Molloy, T. Janssens, P. Grinstead, T. Boyer, G. Lench, N. Watson.

Goalkickers:    K. Molloy 3, J. Gardner 3, S. Fletcher 3, A. Slater 2, P. Grinstead 1.

RESERVES FOOTBALL:  Skipton 5 - 7 - 37 lost to Carngham-Linton 12 - 8 - 80

With a number of players injured or unavailable our task was always going to be difficult. A disappointing first half didn't help but the players lifted in the last two quarters and matched the opposition.

Chris Shelton tried hard all day in the ruck, and was supported by Josh Cahill, Daniel Milenkovic and Phillip Rock. The return of players over the next few weeks will certainly make a difference to the team, which is in second place at the halfway mark.

Best Players:    C. Shelton, J. Cahill, D. Milenkovic, P. Rock, L. Milenkovic, G. Carmody.

Goalkickers:    J. Gibson 3, D. Court 1, J.Cahill 1.

JUNIOR FOOTBALL, UNDER 16's:  Skipton 1 - 1 - 7 lost to Carngham-Linton 21 - 12 - 138

Although the scores might not indicate it the performance of our Juniors was the best for some time. Throughout the game the players were determined to play well, and tried all day!

Daniel Grist led the way and was supported by Michael Kavanagh and Ben Slater.

Best Players:    D. Grist, M. Kavanagh, B. Slater, A. Dowling, A. Meek.

Goalkickers:    B. Slater
