With all the pre-season preparations over last week proved to be very successful, with five of our six teams winning against the Ararat Eagles who were making their debut in the competition.
The much needed rain made conditions difficult but the Reserves and Senior players adapted quickly. It was pleasing to see many of our recruits playing well and more so was the performance of two of our Juniors, Adam Slater and Joseph Kavanagh, who both showed that they should play a lot of Senior football this Season.
Unfortunately, the Junior's start to the season was delayed because of Ararat being unable to field a team. Apart from the Reserves who were beaten by one goal, our Netball teams all won well. With plenty of numbers and a lot of enthusiasm the girls can look forward to a good year. It was great to see Fay Shelton back at the Club again. Her experience will certainly benefit the team.
After our game against Ararat this years Number One membership was presented to Graham Layley in recognition of his outstanding service to the Club over many years including serving as President for eight of the past ten years. An enjoyable evening was held at the Social Rooms last Friday with many Life Members and sponsors in attendance and during the evening our President John Peeters expressed his appreciation on behalf of the Club.
The Committee was pleased to be able to announce that Nigel and Ros Ponder from the Skipton Roadhouse & Newsagency have agreed to become our major sponsor this season. Next week we will explain a promotion through the Roadhouse that will benefit our Club.
Our Annual Sheep Drive will be held on Sunday 6th May. Our Treasurer, Ian Robertson, will be in touch during this week and is looking forward to your support again. He can be contacted on 5340 2374.
The players Calcutta is to be held at the Social Rooms on Saturday the 12th of May after the game against Landsborough. A great night is assured so form your syndicates and we will see you there!
