Skipton Goes Down in an Upset, By Cameron Noakes, The Age, August 03 2003

It was top versus second, a likely grand final preview, and it ended in a two-point result decided in the dying minutes. In the Lexton Plains Football League, Carngham Linton and ladder leader Skipton turned on a nail-biter and it was the No.2 team that fought back from a five-goal deficit to steal an unlikely away victory, 18.6 (114) to 16.16 (112).

Skipton secretary David Poulton said it was very disappointing to lose a crucial home game in front of a big crowd, especially after controlling the game for two-and-a-half quarters. "We missed goals that we probably should have kicked, but they just kept coming at us," he said.

Carngham Linton spearhead Justin Porter bagged eight to take his season goal tally to 99. Skipton half-forward Josh Milenkovic kicked six. Best for Carngham Linton was midfielder Braith Nunn, and for Skipton rover Paul Grinstead.

While Carngham Linton and third-placed Lexton are level with Skipton on points, Skipton retains top spot, thanks to a big percentage that has soared above 260.
