"Skipton Notes" from the "Lexton Plains Footballer" June 21st 2003
Round 8, June 14th 2003, Skipton versus Avoca
Today we travel to Lexton to continue the rivalry developed between the two Clubs with the Emu Creek Challenge Shield at stake. Obviously we are as keen to retain possession of the shield as Lexton will be to take it off us, which obviously means that there will be some keenly contested games.
Incentive award winners in the Seniors last week were Troy Ferrier, Chris Jennings, Nick Watson, Tony Boyer and Aaron Klutke. Other awards went to Tony Boyer (Peter Lalor Hotel), Aaron Klutke (21 Arms), Cameron Postlethwaite (Ballarat Barber Shop) and Daniel Greenock (Pinky’s Pizza)
In the Reserves the winners were Chad Cook (Golden Age Hotel), Jason Gibson (21 Arms), Ryan Adamson (Skipton Hotel) and Mark Hocking (Pinky’s Pizza) and in the Juniors the winners were Michael Kavanagh (Pinky’s Pizza), Kyle Henricksen (McDonalds) and Josh Appleby (Ballarat Barber Shop)
The netballers had a good day winning three of the four games. In the Seniors the award winners were Christie Fletcher (Burrumbeet Hotel), Trudy Boyer (Skipton Hotel) and Clare Odlum (21 Arms). The Reserves awards went to Emma Poulton (Peter Lalor Hotel), Tory Wilson (Skipton Hotel) and Joanna McKerrow (Pinky’s Pizza). In the Under 17 winners were Asha Ponder (Pinky’s Pizza) and Courtney Layley (McDonalds) and in the Under 14 they were Karis Britton (Pinky’s Pizza) and Isobelle Nunn (McDonalds)
Gemma Prendergast unfortunately injured a finger in the Senior netball game and will a few weeks. We wish her a speedy recovery and look forward to her return to the court.
This week we congratulate two more netballers who reach personal milestones - two of the McKerrow girls play their 50th games - Joanna’s 50th Club game and Esther’s 50th Junior game. Today we also recognise the achievement of one of the Clubs popular stalwarts in Gavan Corbett who plays his 350th Club game. Add another 60 Junior games and you have a career at our Club of more than 27 years which is outstanding service. Well done Gavan !
A reminder again of two dates to keep free for social functions. Sunday 27th for the Special Effort draw and the 9th August for the Masquerade Ball.
Tonight we are going back to the Golden Age Hotel at Beaufort for tea and presentation of the awards but before we do that make sure we join the Lexton members for a drink in their rooms. See you there!
