"Skipton Notes" from the "Lexton Plains Footballer" June 14th 2003
Round 7, June 7th 2003, Skipton versus Illabarook
Firstly, we would like to thank the Illabarook Football Club for supporting our Club after the game last Saturday. It was pleasing to see the large number of players, officials and supporters in our Social Rooms.
Award winners were hard to pick from a very even Senior team after last Saturdays win against the Bulldogs. The incentive awards went to Rod Kennedy, Bill Molloy, Paul Grinstead, Cameron Postlethwaite and Aaron Klutke. Other award winners were Rowan O’Callaghan (Peter Lalaor Hotel), Bill Molloy (21 Arms), Adam Slater (Ballarat Barber Shop) and Scott Fletcher (Pinkys Pizza)
Another strong final quarter gave the Reserves an opportunity but they could not make up the lead they had given in the first three quarters. Four quarters of the same football will soon bring about a win. Award winners were Joseph Kavanagh (Golden Age Hotel), Jason Gibson (21 Arms), Chad Cook (Skipton Hotel) and Matthew Gill (Pinkys Pizza)
After a good start our Juniors did what they do in every game and tried their hardest against a stronger opposition. Despite the loss their coach, Dean Sheridan, believes that the boys are improving each week. Award winners were Marvin Chew (Pinkys Pizza), Michael Kavanagh (McDonalds) and Ben Slater (Ballarat Barber Shop)
The Senior and Reserves netballers both had very good wins. In the Seniors the award winners were Gemma Prendergast (Burrumbeet Hotel), Kate Morcombe (Golden Age Hotel) and Christie Fletcher (21 Arms). Tory Wilson (Peter Lalor Hotel), Jacqueline Urquhart (Skipton Hotel) Lynette Heenan (21 Arms) were the winners in the Reserves.
The Junior teams both found it hard against a stronger opposition and were defeated. In the Under 17 Zoe Ferrier (Pinkys Pizza) and Carlee Thornton (McDonalds) won the awards and in the Under 14 they were won by Abby Stimson (Pinkys Pizza) and Christie Toose (McDonalds)
This week three of our netballers reach personal milestones. Courtney Layley plays her 100th Junior game, Rachael Trickey her 50th Junior game and Tory Wilson players her 50th Senior game. Congratulations to the three girls.
Two dates to keep free for Social events are Sunday, the 27th July for our Special Effort draw. Adrian Williams and Harry Kennedy will soon have the tickets available for you to buy. The other date is the 9th August for our Masquerade Ball. Make sure you keep these dates free.
Tonight we are going back to the Skipton Hotel for the presentation of awards and for a meal. Make sure you come along and enjoy the night. See you there!
