"Skipton Notes" from the "Lexton Plains Footballer" May 31st 2003

Round 5, May 24th 2003, Skipton versus Navarre

This week we travel to Linton where we meet long time rivals Carngham Linton and can look forward to seven exciting games of football and netball.

The results from last Saturday's games were pleasing, with wins against Navarre in all games except the Junior football. The Senior footballers were able to overcome a slow start against a young and enthusiastic opposition to eventually run out easy winners. Incentive award winners were Paul Grinstead, Chris Jennings, Andrew Clark, Josh Milenkovic and Bill Molloy. The Peter Lalor Hotel award went to Tim McKay and Chris Jennings received the 21 Arms award. Rod Kennedy won the Ballarat Barber Shop award and John Gardner the Pinky’s Pizza award.

Joseph Kavanagh led the way in the Reserves with 6 goals and he received the Golden Age Hotel award with Ryan Millgate receiving the 21 Arms award. The Skipton Hotel award went to Jason Gibson and Mark Coventry won the Pinky’s Pizza award.

After a good start the Juniors were not able to keep up with the pace of the opposition and their game fell away in the second half. Mark Bradshaw received the Pinky’s Pizza award and the McDonalds voucher went to Jade Sharrock. The Ballarat Barber Shop encouragement award was won by Kyle Hendricksen.

The Senior netballers had a very good win with Clare Odlum receiving the Burrumbeet Hotel award, Gemma Prendergast the Golden Age Hotel award and Christie Fletcher the 21 Arms award.

The Reserves had a big win with Lynette Heenan leading the way. She won the Peter Lalor Hotel award with Koby Sturgeon winning the Skipton Hotel award and Natalie Drake the 21 Arms award.

In the Junior netball the Under 17's had a very close game winning by a goal. The Pinky’s Pizza award went to Esther McKerrow and McDonalds voucher to Asha Ponder. Jessica Grist received the Pinky’s Pizza award and Natalie Trickey the McDonalds voucher in Under 14’s winning team.

Today Leigh Edmonston becomes the 40th player from our Club to reach the milestone of 100 games. A former Junior, Leigh has had to work hard during the past two seasons to achieve this goal and all at our Club admire his determination and congratulate him on his effort

Supporters are reminded that the game that was to be played on the Monday of the Queen's Birthday weekend against Illabarook is now to be played on the Saturday due to the cancellation of the Inter-League game previously proposed for that weekend. The game is to be played at Skipton.

Tonight after drinks in the Carngham Linton social rooms we are heading back to the Peter Lalor Hotel for tea and one or two drinks. See you there!
